Members of Parliament from cross-section committees have toured CIDA funded District-Wide Assistance Project (DWAP), from 21-26 July, 2008, in six districts in Northern Ghana.

The field trip was to facilitate parliamentary oversight of District Assemblies’ (DAs) implementation of development plans, and to promote experience-sharing that hopefully will inform parliamentary input on the proposed District Development Fund when it is tabled.

DWAP is a local governance and poverty reduction budgetary support for Government of Ghana; implemented by DAs in Northern Ghana. The projects seeks to accelerate implementation of district development programming for the poor and to promote the National Decentralization Action Plan (NDAP) by enabling DAs to execute district development Plans.

The delegation dialogued on DA leadership, management and coordination of district development, as well as DA’s human resource capacity to design and implement district development programs and projects.
